A tribute to Pope Francis

From the Staff and Students of Coloma Convent Girls’ School, Croydon

As we journey through this sacred Jubilee Year, declared by Pope Francis as a Year of Hope, the Coloma Convent Girls’ School community joins the global Church in giving heartfelt thanks for the inspiring leadership, deep humility, and unwavering compassion of our Holy Father.

As our staff and students return to school following Holy Week and as we continue the sacred season of Easter, we hold in prayer those members of our Coloma family returning from pilgrimage to Lourdes as our hearts are united in faith and reflection. In this spirit, our Celebration of the Word paid special homage to Pope Francis, a shepherd whose life and message continue to illuminate the path of hope, love, and mercy for us all.

Pope Francis has reminded the world that hope is not just a feeling, but a call to action. A light that leads us to mercy, justice, and love. His example has taught us that through kindness and simplicity, we can reflect God’s love in a complex world. His commitment to the poor, the marginalised, the environment, and to interfaith dialogue continues to guide our mission as a Catholic school rooted in the Gospel.

Here at Coloma, we have taken to heart the Holy Father’s call to walk with hope. In our classrooms, in our prayers, in our service to others, and in the way we care for God’s creation, we strive to be bearers of the joy of the Gospel.

Pope Francis promised to pray for us and asked us to pray for him; we do so now, praying that he will be rejoicing in the presence of God whom he followed so faithfully.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord,

and let perpetual light shine upon him.

May he rest in peace.

Amen.

"Let us be infected by the light of hope."
– Pope Francis
