Assessment

Assessment, Marking, and Feedback

At Coloma Convent Girls' School, we are committed to providing high-quality marking and feedback to ensure that all students clearly understand their progress and know what steps they need to take to improve. Our approach prioritises consistency, clarity, and opportunities for students to reflect on and act upon feedback.

Marking and Feedback Overview

  • In-depth Feedback: Students receive at least one in-depth marked piece of work per half term. This may include an assessment.
  • Literacy Marking: Teachers follow the school's literacy marking codes, as outlined in our policy.
  • Clear Guidance: Feedback includes a "What Went Well" (WWW) and "Even Better If" (EBI) to provide clear, constructive advice.
  • Timeliness: Feedback is given within two weeks of the initial assessment.
  • Growth Lessons: Students participate in dedicated "GROWTH Lessons" to reflect on and respond to their feedback, reinforcing a culture of continuous improvement.

Marking Expectations

To maintain consistency across the school:

  • Teacher Marking: All marking is completed in red pen.
  • Student Responses: Students, including Sixth Form, use purple pen for self-assessment, peer assessment, and responding to feedback.
  • Success Criteria: Extended pieces of writing must include clear success criteria and should involve either self or peer assessment.

Assessment Structure

Our assessment structure is designed to track progress, identify areas for development, and prepare students for academic success:

  • Years 11 and 13: Two summative assessments are completed (three, including their final GCSE or A-level exams).
  • Years 10 and 12: Three summative assessments are conducted annually.
  • Key Stage 3 (KS3): Students complete three summative assessments per year, planned by the Head of Department (HoD).
  • Half-Termly Assessments: Additional assessments are conducted as directed by the HoD.

To support student preparation for assessments:

  • Revision lists are provided to students ahead of exams. These are distributed by Heads of Year to ensure students are well-prepared and confident.

By combining structured assessments with meaningful feedback, we aim to foster academic growth and empower all students to reach their full potential.
