On Wednesday 28th June year 12 students interested in a legal career welcomed experienced Crown Prosecution Service solicitor, Lorna Vincent, and trainee solicitor, Leianne Saleh, to Coloma Sixth form centre.
The legal professionals spoke about the role of the CPS, the criminal justice system and the day-to-day experience of being a Crown Prosecutor. The talk was extremely interesting and students were interested in the high profile cases the prosecutors had dealt with and the variety of criminal casework that the CPS handles.
Once we had thanked the solicitors for their time we took a short bus ride to Croydon Crown Court where we were fortunate enough to watch Judge Smaller deliberate over admissions of evidence. Once court adjourned she took the time to speak to us about the role of a judge in the Crown Court and how she ended up in such an interesting and prestigious position. We watched Crown Court trials about drug importation, assaults and other serious charges.
